Firefox: Keyword Search is fantastic, but…

Firefox Keyword SearchI’ve been using keyword searches in Firefox since it was introduced. I love it! I use it for Google, IMDB etc. There’s a problem though. If you need more than one search term, Firefox separates them with “%20″ instead of the more correct use of a plus (+) sign. This breaks some searches, for example Allmusic and Wikipedia. Today I discovered that there’s a bug entry for this in Firefox’s bug tracker and it’s called “Bug #247645: spaces should be encoded as plus signs in keyword search”. It was opened June 19 2004, so I guess it’s not high priority over at Firefox HQ. Hopefully they’ll get around to it in Firefox 1.1 or something. I could grab the code, fix this myself and the recompile the whole thing. This is definately something I would have done 7 years ago, but now I’m just too lazy. ;)

Loss of inspiration – The story of my life

I’m in a bit of a slump music wise again… Surprise, surprise. If you’ve been following my “career” during the years… you know I end up in these kinds of things now and then. Actually, I think the periods of great inspiration loss are winning. I always ask myself – why? Why do I have these long, long periods of “silence”. To be honest, I haven’t got the faintest clue. I’ve tried to really analyze this, but after a while I gets kinda boring. I guess I should just let it go. Who knows, maybe I’ll be able to make music if I stop to think about making music… Ehm, oh well. Don’t mind me, I’m rambling. ;)

Been swamped

Been a bit swamped at work, so I haven’t been able to work on this little test. Also, the fan on my graphics card (on my main system at home) broke down, so I can’t use the computer for more than 10 minutes. Luckily I have my laptop, but working on a laptop is a bit slower, atleast for me… Anyway, I ordered a new fan this weekend, and it should arrive today. I got me a Zalman VF700-AlCu which should be more than enough for my needs.

update: The fan arrived today, as predicted. I’ve installed it and run some Radeon demos to warm the chip up a bit. No problems so far. Let’s hope it stays this way.

Trying out WordPress

Hi folks! Been thinking about redesigning my site (dempa.init5.net) from the ground up for some time now. Writing a new framework (utilising HTML::Mason of course) would be kinda fun. On the other hand, it’s quite a lot of work and I really don’t have the time right now. Anyway, was browsing through some blogs’n stuff the other day and I stumbled upon WordPress 1.5. Haven’t given these open source blogging solutions much thought before. Why not? Well, you know, I’m a coder… I like to “roll my own”.

WordPress“Luckily” for me, I get to do some coding (and design) even if I switch to using WordPress for my personal site. So far I’ve whipped up my own theme and made a small stub for a WP Template that will be used to showcase my songs (“My music” in the menu on the right). My former site had lots of logging, stats and stuff, but I think I’ll let that go now. I mean, it’s cool to know that people download my music, but not how many per day and so on.

Time will tell if this is the road I want to take…
