Trying out blip.fm

Music, music, music. Spotify has basically taken over as my main source of music. It’s a fantastic service and I hope it will remain this good. However, it’s always fun to try out new services, and today I started to use blip.fm. It’s like Twitter + Music in a way. Users are called DJs. They post a song (found in the blip.fm database) along with a short message. You can follow people, give them “props” for being a good DJ or whatever and so on.

The music that are played comes from all over the net. For example, someone has sent them links to three of my songs. Or maybe some sort of web spider has crawled them, I dunno. When you play a song it streams directly from the original URL.

I’ve been lurking on Twitter for quite some time now. I’m following 40 or so people. I kinda like it. However, I’ve never posted anything. My plan was to really start using it when I got my music making back on track. Yeah. Sure.

Slowly starting to make music again

I’ve been experimenting with a few tracks the last couple of weeks. Nothing worth releasing (yet), but at least there’s *some* progress. I’ve been busy renovating both the master bedroom and the study (where I make music) this summer. I stowed away my old Korg O1/Wfd synth and replaced it with an M-Audio KeyRig 49 keyboard. Much smaller (the O1 is 61 keys and a full fledged synth/workstation) but also somewhat “low budget”. The worst part though, has been getting used to pitch bend/modulation wheels (the O1 has a joystick with pitch bend on the X axis and modulation on the Y axis).

Initially, I had my eyes set on an M-Audio Axiom 49 but a) it’s much more expensive and b) they didn’t have it in stock at the store – and I’m a first class “impulse buyer”. And by the way, c) I probably wouldn’t make any more music with the Axiom than with the KeyRig, so why bother?

Let’s hope I can crank out some tunes soon!

Yes, it’s true. For some reason, I got a rush of inspiration tonight and out came this song. Soft synths, relaxing beats. Perfect for a late night chillout session perhaps. Anyway, I’m so excited to finally get a tune out of the door again. It’s been far too long!

Aah, the famous Homer Simpson quote. If I’m not making any sense, I’m referring to the title of this post. Anyway, the other day, I thought I’d try to make some music. To the few of you who listens to my music: I’m sorry, I wasn’t anywhere near successful. Aaaanyway, when I fired up the sequencer I couldn’t get it to record any MIDI data. In fact, my computer wasn’t receiving any MIDI data at all. The first thing that should have popped up into my mind: Check the cables. Think about the title of this post again. It didn’t pop into my mind. Not at that time anyway.

I started to reinstall sound card drivers left and right. I must have spent an hour trying to figure this thing out. Then I remembered! I had to pull my son (soon two years old and always up to no good) out from behind my desk. Did he accidentally pull the cables out? Naaah… or? Yes, of course!

Halftone – Stranger EP is out!

Two friends of mine (Stefan Jönsson & Olof Lönnroth) have once again joined forces and started a project called “Halftone“. Their first EP is out and it’s called “Stranger”. As Olof says on his blog: “It’s dark, it’s ambient and it contains vocals“. Yummy! The release contains the original song plus three remixes.

This is a good EP. Why? Well, first of all, you can’t beat the price – It’s free! But best of all – It’s good music! Go download (or hurry up and buy the limited CD – my copy is on the way)!

I’ve had this one ready for release for atleast a week, but I couldn’t come up with a decent name for it. It’s a 140bpm psy/goa track with many classic elements. Enjoy!

I finally managed to crank out a new tune. This one is a bit different from my other songs, I think. I categorized it as “Easy Listening”, because it’s… well… Easy listening. Ehm. Anyway, the title for this track came to me when I was thinking about how fast this last year has gone by. Next month, my son will be one year old. Unbelievable!

Anyway, I could have done a lot more polishing on this one, but I didn’t feel like it. My playground – my rules! :) Enjoy!

Me and space music

I get some clicks from web pages dealing with space music. What is space music? You know, Laser Dance, Koto, Proxyon and so on. Some might call it “Italo” even. Anyway, all my music is influenced by the group Laser Dance, which I listened extensively to during the early 90′s. However, the end result might not always sound like something you would call “space music”. In fact, it doesn’t sound like that at all. One of my songs, “Master Switch” is somewhat true to that genre. But that song was released ages ago! And that bothers me. I need to get back to my roots and produce some new space mooosik right away. Can’t promise anything (as usual), but I’ll do my best to get some of my space music songs finished and released.
