Sorry for the lack of updates

I’m truly sorry that I haven’t been able to write anything interesting here for a really long time. Due to personal issues my time, and frankly, my interest in updating the blog has been minimal.

I’ll try to correct this sometime in the future. Stay tuned. :)

Wow. I must say that the changes to the admin interface in WordPress 2.7 are, well maybe not “amazing”, but really, really good. I’m digging it.

Site now iPhone friendly

I installed an excellent WordPress-plugin called iWPhone WordPress Plugin and Theme. It automatically detects when a visitor is using an iPhone to browse your site and reformats all your content to better suite that device. It works like a charm.

…ehm, how do I know that? I bought an iPhone 3G 16GB (black). Damnit! I said I wouldn’t but I couldn’t resist the urge. I’m a weak, weak man. :) On a brighter note, it’s a fantastic piece of hardware. No doubt about that. Now, give me my navi software! (Look, there’s hope!)

Update: Looks like 3DVU is releasing some sort of navigation software for the iPhone soon? I’m not that interested in their particular software but it makes me hope that other companies will be able to release their applications for the iPhone as well… or?

A different look

My previous theme was designed and coded by me. I’ve been sick and tired of that look for quite some time now, so today I decided to scrap it and install a downloaded theme. I really want to have a more personalized look but I just haven’t got the time. I have a couple of themes on the drawing board but I will probably never get around to finish them.

This theme was made by Bob and I think it’s quite nice, however maybe just a tad too minimalistic.

No new music yet. Sorry.

Upgrade to WordPress 2.3 + new hardware

I’ve just upgraded to WordPress 2.3. It’s been out for over three weeks. This is how badly this site is run nowadays. :) On the music front; I’ve actally done some composing lately! Yes, you read that right. Of course, nothing ready for release just yet but keep your fingers crossed!

Oh yeah, I got me a new soundcard the other day (week). I’ve been using a crappy Soundblaster Live all these years, but with the kX drivers, you can actually get a decent latency (with decent I mean somewhere around 21ms, which is really bad but better than the default). Anyway, I bought a Delta Audiophile 2496. It’s a very popular card in the budget range and, in my opinion, best bang for the buck (atleast if you don’t need lots of ins and outs). It cost me 995 SEK (which is roughly 110 EUR) and now I’m experiencing a latency of 1ms. Not bad.

Comment spam

Wow! When I published my “Hay-fever” post yesterday, I immediately got 5 comment spam. I’m not the world’s most active blogger – and probably not that interesting to the world – so this surprised me a bit. Anyway, I got me an API key, activated Akismet and today Akismet have intercepted 39 comment spam for me. Nice!

I published yesterdays post from Ecto. This is the only difference from previous posts. I’m sure Ecto had nothing to do with this though. It was just bad luck. Fortunately for me, Akismet seems like a rock solid plugin for fighting comment spam.

Server problems

The server dempa.init5.net is running off is experiencing some severe hardware problems. The power supply was shot to pieces sometime last night and the motherboard has probably been affected somehow. I’ve managed to bring everything back up on a spare power supply and on “BIOS Defaults” (since entering the correct values seems to make it unable to boot).

Sigh!

Trying out the del.icio.us playtagger

I’m currently trying out the del.icio.us playtagger. It’s a small javascript that enables every mp3 link on your webpage to be played directly in your browser (via a small flash program). It also enables you to tag that piece of music directly to your del.icio.us account. All mp3 references on my page will have a small “play graphic” next to it now, except on the music page – those links are not regular links and are not covered by this little script.

Upgraded to WordPress 2.0

WordPress 2.0 was released on December 26 2005. Tonight I decided to take it for a spin. It was a fairly painless upgrade process. The big changes are hidden in the background code, but some nice things can be seen in the administration interface, like a WYSIWYG post editor, some AJAX-tweaks, a nice post preview function etc. Also, the Akismet spam prevention plugin is now built in from scratch. Some third party plugins may not work correctly after an upgrade, but you can always check the 2.0 Plugin Compatibility List before upgrading.
